Layers in MS Paint: A Redesign on the Horizon

Microsoft has announced that a redesign of its iconic Paint application will soon be available as an update through the Microsoft Store. This means that users won't have to wait for the next feature update, such as Windows 11 version 22H2, to get their hands on the new look.

The redesigned Paint app is currently making its way through the Beta and Release Preview channels before it reaches the production channel. Although it's not included in the upcoming Windows 11 release, users can still try out the updated application via the Microsoft Store.

Upon closer inspection, however, it appears that the redesign is not yet complete. Users may notice legacy components when navigating between menus and pages within MS Paint. For instance, the colour picker seems to be using outdated controls instead of WinUI 2.6.

Microsoft is also experimenting with a dark mode for the Paint app to align it with the aesthetic of Windows 11. This could be a welcome addition for users who prefer a darker interface.

The new Paint app will likely bring about a fresh and modern design, but some users may encounter issues due to the incomplete state of the redesign. Nevertheless, the update is expected to arrive soon in the production channels, offering users an enhanced painting experience.
